Visceral Manipulation is a manual therapy approach where the precise placement of gentle, directionally specific forces are used to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera (internal organs) and their connective tissues. By using specific techniques, practitioners can evaluate where lines of tension, stress or abnormal forces interplay, overlap and affect the body’s physical and physiological functions.
Changes to the viscera are often a result from surgery, infection, trauma, physical, mental and emotional stress etc.
The musculoskeletal system can be directly effected by these changes leading to muscular inhibition, pain, spasm or muscular “guarding”, stiffness and restricted mobility and reduced strength and stability.
